Emre Basar, MD<br><br>Born in Istanbul, Emre Basar was raised in Germany where he attended a French-German bilangual high school. Upon completion of his medical studies at the Ruhr-University in Bochum, he attended a postdoctoral fellowship at the Immune Disease Institute at Harvard Medical School in Boston. His research focused on harnessing siRNAs as vaginal microbicide to inhibit heteresexual transmission of HIV. Furthermore, he studied the intracellular trafficking of siRNAs and miRNAs, and the delivery of liposomal siRNAs into breast cancer stem cells.<br><br>In 2013, Emre joined the pharmaceutical industry with a role in Medical Affairs Oncology at Baxter in Munich. Over the past 9 years, Emre has been working in various Medical Affairs positions with increasing responsibility at Baxalta, Shire and CSL Behring. <br>Currently, he works as Global Medical Director at Takeda Pharmaceuticals in Zurich. In his role, he leads the Global Medical Affairs activities for Takeda`s investigational drug TAK-755, a recombinant ADAMTS13 which is being developed as a potential therapeutic for congenital thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.<br><br>Since his biomedical research at Harvard, Emre has been passionate about digital innovation with a focus on digital health. In 2007, he became co-founder of InterNations.org, an internet startup which has advanced to the world`s largest social networking platform for expatriates. In 2017, InterNations was acquired by XING AG. <br>Currently, Emre engages in multiple innovation projects that aim at developing state-of-the-art medical education and digital-added value services including AI-based predictive biomarkers.
